A chocolate kiss on a glazed spring veranda

Helsinki, -2 degrees

If yesterday was a regular super snowy winter day, today was a clear sign of spring! This morning the sunbeams were exceptionally bright! The air felt brisky and we had about 0 degrees, even plus degrees in the sun! The snowflakes glistened on the crusts of snow while the birds were singing!

What would be a better day to enjoy a good cup of Italian coffee on the glazed veranda of one of Helsinki's oldest cafés Kappeli in the company of one of my best friends?

I especially liked the colorful gingerbread they had today, and I bought one of Finland's most popular treats, a Brunberg kiss, for my friend, I was so happy to see her! Have you ever tried them? Can't you just feel the sweet soft foam taste on your lips? Yummy!

Oscarinas and whirling weather

Helsinki, -2 degrees

Today on my way home from work I waited in a still tram for about 10 minutes in front of the biggest department store of Helsinki because four trams were stuck in snow. I think this is the best description I can give you of today's whirling weather. Or maybe the picture here tells more than a thousand words could every say. You tell me.

At the office we're busy making this spring's brochures. I've been looking through some translations for our family brochure over Helsinki, as well as some new internet texts for our renewed website that was launched today! Have a look here! At the front page, I've written the texts over World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and the Icepark! What do you think? Please give all possible feedback on the website since it's brand new! Maybe you'll learn something new about Helsinki!

Of course I've also been looking at some red carpet pictures from the Oscar's like I guess all women of this earth! Probably it comes as no surprise that my absolute favorite dress was of Elie Saab (that I've been pracing on my blog for a long time alreadt) on actress Berenice Bejo.

Here are some other favorites of mine:

Source
Claire Danes

Octavia Spencer

Viola Davis

Gary Oldman's wife Alexandra Edenborough

Esperanza Spalding

Glenn Close

Jessica Chastain

Kristen Wiig

Maria Menounos

Nancy O'Dell

I loved the contrast between pastel color and strong colored dresses that hit the red carpet this year! Maybe the pastel ones were closer to my heart though, except Claire Danes who I thought was absolutely stunning! Who was your favorite?

This day started in an alarming way: I got a phone call that my boyfriend had been taken to the hospital with the ambulance. I spent the next few minutes trying to find out at what hospital he was at and in what condition. Fortunately it seemed he was fine when I talked to the hospital personnel. His arm or rather shoulder was dislocated due to a rough icehockey game. Happily enough I got him home some half an hour later and now everything is fine. He needs to wear an arm sling for a week, but that's all. Things like this really makes you think about what's important in your life. He is my one true love in this life!

I would also like to share with you the happy news that today, for the first time this year, I heard birds singing outside my window. Spring is on its way it seems!

Fashion wise short hems have inspired me lately. Here are some looks for New York. I especially like the jacket that has been turned into a dress, how about you? What do you think - too short for your taste?

Faux fur jacket

Helsinki, -2 degrees

You may be a princess or the richest woman in the world, but you cannot be more than a lady.

This week has been all about fighting against getting sick, as a flu wave has hit my workplace, work and princess cake (due to the craziness over Sweden's newborn crown princess Estelle). My new tasks have been challenging but in a good way, I'm really enjoying them! I feel that I'm doing something that I'm good at, even if it is truly challenging and that I tell you is a great sensation. Still I have a lot to learn, and I look forward to each week starting!

Today I dared to use my faux fur jacket for the first time since I knew for sure that it wouldn't snow, at least not heavily. This weekend I'm going to plan my birthday, catch up on some reading and just relax! How about you?

Spring trends 2012: bows, stripes & tender pastels

Helsinki, 1 degree

An airy fairy breeze secures a prosperous voyage.

This month I've been excited about many things fashion wise. My birthday is rapidly approaching which has got me thinking about a birthday dress. I might have found it yesterday but I won't show to you until the big day, just so I won't spoil it for my friends coming to celebrate little old me getting older in one and a half week.

Elle Finland's March issue reeks of spring! Here are some of the things that got my attention when I browsed through the mag.

I fell in love with these flip flops designed by no other than Gisele Bündchen herself. Look how lovely and girly they are with bows! And one of their best feature - look at their price! You must think I'm mad looking at flip flops with tons of snow outside my window, but I think this is the perfect time to dream about summer. After all, isn't dreaming about something what makes it so much better when it actually happens?

Elle also introduces us to this spring's tender pastel colors through high fashion house examples. Here's Ralph Lauren's and Louis Vuitton's spring looks - a jazz girl and a doll like beauty...

..followed by Alexander McQueen's and Prada. Love the coral fluffiness and the baby blue midi skirt!

Yves Saint Lauren and Chanel keep it simple but ever so elegant. These looks I would say suits best the office, or what do you think?

Givenchy and Giorgio Armani rounds off the trend with mermaid and sculpture like soft red and strong green.

Elle takes it one step further and shows us also how to create the perfect coral color look! I loved this page with pink pieces of clothing!

In my childhood my family had a sailing boat. Ever since there has been a true love story between me and sailing related clothing, maybe because it reminds me of my childhood. Go figure. I love, love, loved this spread about the so called pirate look of the yacht club, haha.

Funnily enough I recognized Bill Blass' look in the lower right corner of this spread while flipping through the magazine, since I mentioned it in September last year in one of my blog post. You can see what I then wrote here. Seemingly I have something in common with the editor of Elle Finland. I guess it's true what George William Curtis once said: "It is not the ship so much as the skillful sailing that assures the prosperous voyage." It doesn't always necessarily need a fashion magazine to spot superb catwalk looks.

An army of snowmen

Helsinki, +1 degree

We have reached plus degrees in mid February! Even though one might not believe so seeing thhis wintry picture of our parliament building! I'm sorry for the quality of this picture but it's so amazing that I had to share it with you. I snapped it in the tram on my way home, and I don't know if you can make it out but those are actually snowmen on the snowy part in front of the building! I'm not lying if I'm saying that there were at least 20 of snowmen - so cute! How many capitals can say that they have an army of snowmen in front of their parliament?

To be tested is good. The challenged life may be the best therapist.

Since I spent yesterday at home having a small flu, I had some time to think about the challenge I received from one of my friends (who happens to have a blog of her own called Liza in London).

In real life Liza is Liisa, an ex colleague who I think the world of, and she challenged me to name five bloggers with under 200 followers that I follow.

This is truly a challenge because usually I do not categorize the blogs according to their amount of followers. I read blogs that interest me, and hardly ever check the follower amounts of them. Nevertheless, here are the blogs I would like to present!

Here it goes..

Bright and Sassy is a blog about fashion, style, and life. The blog's posts are about the things the blogger loves (favorite finds, weekly obsessions) and the outfits she love most. I think she's inspiring!

Cinja's blog is about a 20-year old student in business economics, living in Hamburg/Germany. She works in journalism and have a passion for fashion. She writes about fashion, but also her life. I like that the blog is personal and not commercial but the writer puts her heart in writing it.

Ett annat New York is a blog about the big Apple that helps me with my NY obsession. I'm dreaming about travelling to New York so the blog is perfect for me! Even though this blog is in Swedish, it's a must for all NY lovers out there!

Lure of the dark side is a blog that I've started reading recently. The blogger Marianne is very nice and gives long comment even to my blog, which I truly appreciate! This is how she describes her blog: "a blog dedicated to women (and men) who ooze sex appeal and carnality in a seductive and tempting way."

And finally I would like to present Preppy Casual which is a blog that always has interesting and beautiful posts. Here one can see that the blogger really puts in time to make stunning photos! Even though the blog is written in Finnish, I would recommend it to everybody because it gives you an idea about how life is in Finland!

Crust, crud, slush, powder, ice

One of my friends called today a polar expedition - and that it truly was! Close by to Helsinki airport an incredible 76 cm of snow was counted this evening!! My day was spent by struggling through snow..

..heading to my mom's to celebrate Shrove Sunday! Traditionally Shrove Sunday and especially Shrove Tuesday is celebrated by enjoying lovely Shrove buns; with either jam or almond paste. Both have whipped cream in the middle, but the ones with jam have powdered sugar on top whereas the ones with almond paste have almonds. My favorites are the ones with jam, but I think this is a matter that divides the Finnish people in half. Can't you just taste them through these pictures?

Delicious!

Later on today I challenged the weather once again and headed to my boyfriend's grandmother's 90th birthday party! Yeah, hurrah for her! What a cute old lady that grandmother!

Hope your weekend has been good? What have you been up to?

VectorCloud dragonfly wing laser cut necklace

Helsinki, -6 degrees

I got crazy yesterday when I found this dragonfly necklace on the All things paper blog. I thought it was so stunning that I had to buy it! I mean look at it - it's lace-like!

While browsing through Etsy's selection, I also found another dragonfly necklace, this of a real dragonfly wing!! I've never something so delicate and beautiful!

The description of the necklace went like this:
"A dragonfly wing is suspended from an antiqued bronze chain randomly dotted with antique crystals. A fine wing, fallen from flight; a precious specimen caught under glass and gleaming in the light. Utterly enchanting natural history jewelry"

Oh my god, I'm in love with these necklaces! I can't wait to receive them!!
