“The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore”

Helsinki, 14 degrees

This week has started again extremely hectic, but fun! There is a lot of media attention towards Helsinki right now, so I've been helping out with making programs for visiting journalists, while at the same time visiting cafés and restaurants and finalizing the brochure I've been talking about lately also here on my blog. Who knew there was so much work behind a brochure, hehe? How has your week started?

Yesterday I got to enjoy Helsinki's true maritime appeal since I joined in on a restaurant tour organized by Kämp Group. The idea was to showcase three of their restaurants since all three of them offer novelties this summer!

Restaurant Palace offers dining with a breath-taking view over Helsinki's South Harbor. The terrace is going to have its own terrace menu this summer, which I think was an excellent idea!

Restaurant Palace has had an important role in pushing forward Finnish gastronomy ever since the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. It was Restaurant Palace which first brought the new culture of fine dining to Helsinki. What do you think about the view?

Our second stop was beautiful restaurant Särkänlinna to which we took a ferry over from the mainland! In the 18th century a fort was constructed on Särkkä island just off the coast of Helsinki to defend the city. Some wars later, in 1924, the Särkänlinna restaurant was opened in that very fort. To this day it holds its place as one of the most unique summer restaurants in Helsinki.

My personal favorite was restaurant Boathouse with its stunning round building! The romantic setting in the middle of the sea was definately of my liking, and yet again, only a five-minute-ferry ride from the seashore of Helsinki! Thanks to the restaurant's unique form, it has functioned as a film setting for Finnish movies, like "Där vi en gång gått", that I told about in my blog post here.

Do you like island restaurants? Does the sea inspire you?

What's your opinion?

  2. Wow, the locations of these restaurants are fantastic...delicious food over exquisite scenery - that is the perfect combination. Love the decor of the last one and the balcony seating view of the first.

  3. Kauniita paikkoja :) En ole itse päässyt näissä ruokailemaan, mutta etenkin tuolla Särkän saarella olisi ihana päästä käymään! (Mummoni tyttönimi;)
