Lovely Helsinki, Finnish Design Market & floral pants

Helsinki, 9 degrees

Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made, and forgot to put a soul into.

Every day is a surprise when you're living in Helsinki! I spent this morning at two press conferences learning about two upcoming events in the city!

Firstly, next week the city will be filled with flowers thanks to the Ihana Helsinki (in English: lovely Helsinki) urban festival which is organized now for the first time ever! The idea is to welcome spring to the city with a festival consisting of tons of events and strewing of flowers, in over 200 places!

All the central shopping centers are participating in this festival and the stores will be open until midnight next Thursday! There will also be e.g. a parade going through the city on Friday showcasing Helsinki's 200-year-long history as the Finnish capital! I think it sounds like a fun festival so I can't wait for it to start on the 9th of May! I especially liked the Ihana Helsinki cupcakes made by Finnish Fazer that we tried today. They were delicious and covered with no other than flowers of course!

The second press conference introduced twenty Finnish designers that will function as an addition to the traditional Market Square (Helsinki's main attraction) here in Helsinki over the summer when they plan to open the Finnish Design Market! Currently, the Market Square hosts only food and souvenir sellers, not designers. The Finnish Design Market, opening the 1st of June, will consist like I mentioned of Finnish designers and bring design to the true customer level - the market! How many of you buy food or other things from a market?

The color scheme of the new tents and the logo for the market have been taken from Helsinki's coat of arms and the logo of this theme year!
This is how the new tents will look like - quite different when you compare them to the regular tents you see on the Market Square which are orange!
The 20 designers will form two lines of tents, I can't wait to see what they have in store for us! I heard today that many of them will sell jewelry, but there will also be some designers selling children's clothing, wooden and glass items, posters, and postcards! How exciting!

Even though the Finnish Design Market itself isn't flower related, today I've been inspired by them! In the latest issue of Trendi magazine, I saw this amazing outfit with flowers by Adam.

It took some time, but after a couple of days I found this wonderfully similar outfit on Asos. Unfortunately by then they were out of the jacket, so I had to settle for the trousers.

And this is the outfit I came up with! I combined it with a classic white shirt and some pearl earrings.

Have you found a pair of flower pants to your liking yet?

"Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men or animals. Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower and the hollyhock."

What's your opinion?

  1. Kuulostaa ihanalta tapahtumalta!

    Aurinkoista viikonloppua,

  3. Loved browsing through this post, it was an influx of excitement. Firstly, the two events sound equally fantastic. The festival will be a joy, I hope to see some pics of it here on your blog. The Design event will be great blogger inspiration for all the fashion-lovers out there. And lastly, I Lurv those floral pants...i think its a pretty print and actually prefer just the one piece, and not the entire outfit with the jacket. I like how you've worn it simply and elegantly with a white shirt

    1. Happy you liked it Sam, I really appreciate all the feedback I can get :) I'll make sure to put up some pictures from the festival!
It might be simple but at my workplace it was thought to be quite daring since everyone just wears black and grey outfits there, haha! Thank you so much for the compliment!
