Helsinki articles

Helsinki, 14 degrees

I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things... I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.

This week has been all about putting together programs for journalists visiting Helsinki. It's exciting how I learn new things by planning programs for others! But work pays off, lately there has been a lot of articles on Helsinki!

According to Australian The Sydney Morning Herald Helsinki is a "hoop-jumping city of problem-solvers", as Monocle magazine suggested in its latest index of the world's most liveable cities, ranking it No.1 - ahead of Zurich, Copenhagen, Munich and Melbourne. "Hidden up at the top of Europe, they tend to keep their success to themselves." "Design is part of the city's DNA."

Brittish The Independent, on the other hand, says that America may once have been the Land of Opportunity, but thanks to its rising levels of inequality – not to mention the nightmarish visa restrictions – Brittish political class now has another destination in mind. "If you want the American Dream," Ed Miliband says, "go to Finland."

American The Atlantic says that restaurant Chef & Sommelier's chef Sasu Laukkonen takes Finnish food from the worst in the world to gourmet.

And finally, Swedish Svenska Dagbladet thinks that Helsinki is a city where styles are mixed. Design, art and culture - that is what Helsinki is all about according to the story's writer.

What words do you associate with Helsinki?

What's your opinion?

  1. the restaurant is called "softla" if i am not wrong and it's a combination of the names of the owners, it just opened by a married Finnish couple who decided to move to Athens and since my friend and i always had a thing for Finland we decided to pay it a visit, especially she goes crazy for Finnish things she wants to learn the language and live there.
i'll definetely try fish then. are there any plates i should avoid?

    1. Oh, that's interesting! Does it have a website? It's so nice that your friend is interested in Finland. No, I don't think we have any plates worth avoiding. Everything should be tried at least once :)

  3. wow I must have been living in a bubble. i always thought of Sweden as a country with a lot of prairies and greens. After looking at your photos, it is definetely a much more metropolitan city. It reminds me of Washington or Boston.

    I am a follower now.
    Keep in touch.:)

    1. Haha, FINLAND is much more than prairies and greens! I would say it would be good to get to know all the Nordic countries first, and then learn about their differences!
Helsinki is a metropolitan city! <3

  4. Hi dear, thanks for your kind comments, you one of very few people that I have met who is so patriotic and passionate about their city, I think thats a rare and special thing. I wish I have been to helsinki to know and understand what words to associate with it, but I think that art, design and culture seems to be a major part of it.

    1. Haha yeah I get told that quite a lot actually. But see, working with the city creates a unique bond with it, and for me, my city is a huge part of who I am.
