May you live all the days of your life!

Helsinki, 20 degrees

Yesterday stood for one of the annual highlights of the year: my mother's crayfish birthday party!! Crayfish, dill, schnapps, singing...what an amazing atmosphere! I truly love these small creatures!

We eat crayfish by using specific knives to open them up. First one cracks the so called "claws", also known as chelipeds to suck on and eat them. Then one sucks on the crayfish's body to get out all the juice from that part. Last but not least one eats the "tail", the abdomen. The crayfish "tails" are eaten with mayonnaise and dill on bread. All of this is done by hand so it gets quite messy but it's so much fun, and it's so yummy! I think I ate more than 20 this time!

Since my mother turned 62 years, I thought it would be a fun idea to honor her with a 60's theme, so I created my version of H&M's rockabilly banana hairdo for the party and wore my mom's dress from the 60's! I can't believe it's still in such perfect condition - a true vintage dress treasure! These kinds of dresses are stylish still today, don't you think?

As expected, today the skin on my fingers is full of small cuts thanks to the crayfish chelipeds, my throat is sore from all the singing and I can feel in my tongue that I have sucked the crayfish juice from the little buggers.

Do you like crayfish, how do you enjoy them?

What's your opinion?
