Tree leaves

Helsinki, 11 degrees

I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things... I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.

This stormy and rainy Tuesday started off with some heavy wind but ended up being a beautiful calm autumnal day. This got me all philosophic and thinking about how much we truly resemble tree leaves. We all start out green; naive, childishly eager, beginners in a sense. Some of us stay green forever, at least partly, others change color with time and lose their enthusiasm. Are we able to stop the change that happens within us over time if we want or is this change inevitable like the leaves that change color in fall?

We're also lost sometimes and twirl around just like leaves..and sometimes one definitely wants to kick some leaves around since they're just laying there when they could be doing something else. Have you tried it? Isn't it therapeutic?

Besides being obsessed with leaves, I've also been fascinated with this editorial I found on Fashionising, that showcases Polish Weronika Kosinska's stunning photos set in water. I love the jewelry and makeup in these photos. Somehow even these remind me of autumn, in my mind these ladies are laying in puddles, even though they probably are set in baths.

What has been on your mind this Tuesday?

What's your opinion?

  1. what a captivating editorial that is! I like the selection of colours and statement jewellery, especially the black necklace.
but when it comes to leaves I can only think about the fact how they're lying everywhere in our garden and it's annoying. they simply keep coming!
by the way, I know I should update my "About Me" page but I always procrastinate when it comes to that. and I could not order from Akiko because I can't make international payments. I even can't shop in international online stores. at least it allows me to save some money, hehe.

    1. I loved the colors too! I saw that some of the jewelry is for sale in H&M , just giving you a hint if you really liked them :)
Oh I didn't know about the fact that you can't make international payments, how come? That must be so life restricting!

  3. I have never thought to compare the human experience to leaves, but it is very true. Such a powerful observation. I will never think of fall the same way again! :)

  4. Kauniisti ajateltu. :) Niinhän se vähän on, kaikessa elävässä.. (Jos muistan tämän oikein niin esimerkiksi Shrek vertaa itseään sipuliin, hänessä kun on kerroksia. :D)

Kiitos kommentista :) Nonni, maakuntamatkailemaan kumpikin sitten vaan! :) Täällä on varmaan aika samannäköistä syksy-talviaikaan kuin muuallakin harmaassa Suomessa, onneksi on monenmoista kauppakeskuksen synttäriä, Halloweenia ja joulukadun avajaisia ym. tulossa. Ja torille tuli uusia myyntikojuja; mm. fuksian värisiä, josta herännyt monia eriäviä mielipiteitä :D

Millaisia kauppakeskuksia teilläpäin on? Löytyykö muitakin kauppoja paitsi tuo sisustuskauppa jossa on vain pakko käydä?

  5. Hi Elisabeth, I loved your analogy on humans and leaves, how true, I never thought of it before. Some people just flutter about through life and others stay firm throughout its challenges, much like ecological challenges that trees/leaves face. Very interesting! Love the jewellery campaign shots, very clean, simple and striking.

  8. What a beautiful post. It's very true how we are a lot like leaves. Kicking leaves is very therapeutic, kind of like jumping in them! :)

  9. What an interesting philosophical take on leaves and how they relate to people - we are very much like leaves in a way, you're quite right!

  10. Such an interesting and beautiful way of relating the changes people go through life to something which goes through a similar process - it's just with leaves that you really see the entire process much more quickly! Great metaphor for life actually.
