Santa Claus

Helsinki, 7 degrees

Believe in love. Believe in magic. Hell, believe in Santa Clause. Believe in others. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. If you don't, who will?

Sometimes a city girl has to step into the wilderness. Today was one of those days since I got, thanks to my work, to go to Espoo, our neighboring city, for a tour of the Korpilampi area. Korpilampi is located about 40 minutes from Helsinki by bus. The area is known for this lake that you see in the picture, and the hotel and conference center behind it, but above all because somebody special spends his holidays there. I think this blog post is dedicated to all of you readers who still haven't got the Christmas spirit...

Have you already guessed who spends his holidays in these woods? Santa Claus of course!

Everyone knows Santa Claus, the white-bearded old man living in Korvatunturi, Lapland. He also has a number of bases around of Finland. Have you ever stopped to wonder what Santa Claus does during his holiday season?

Once the work up at Arctic Circle has been finished, Santa Claus relaxes in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings in the middle of the lake environment in Korpilampi, Espoo at Santa's Cottage.

Here he has a wooden house, a Lappish tent called kota in Finnish, a food storage building and a smoke sauna - ideal for holidays!

Inside this white bearded man warmly welcomes you! By the fireplace Santa Claus shares stories about the gone summers in Korpilampi. Santa says he remembers perfectly well at least 150 summers that he has spent here. This is as far as he has got in his memoirs, as he always falls asleep in the middle of the storytelling! I personally loved all the books about elves that he had in his cottage!

Outside the cottage we enjoyed warm mulled wine, glögi as we call it - there is no Christmas without it! The glögi was served in these wooden cups we call kuksa.

To get into the true Christmas spirit, please see this video about Santa's Cottage:

I also fell in love with these bird houses that were hanging outside Santa's Cottage, aren't they just adorable? Have you ever met Santa Claus, would you like to?

I would also like to share with you at this point that Allison from the blog A's Fashion Files was lucky enough to win my necklace competition! Congratulations! Can't wait to see the necklace on you!

What's your opinion?

I bet you didn't know it but the home of Estonian Santa Claus (Jõuluvana in Estonian) is here in my home town, Jõgeva! and Christmas spirit is definitely important, especially when you're having the craziest times at work.. I'm really waiting for those holidays and free days already! and your post reminded me that after a month I must have all the presents..
