Snowy Helsinki & photo wall project

Helsinki, -10 degrees

A single conversation across the table with a wise person is worth a month's study of books.

Greetings from the White City of the North! This year Christmas time Helsinki is a true Christmas card beauty! It's been amazing preparing for Christmas with this much snow. This year I've understood why we have to be grateful for the location of our stunning city. It's truly a blessing having four distinct seasons.

I would also like to take this chance to congratulate Maiken from Maikeni Blogi for winning my bracelet competition! Well done! I hope the bracelet will bring you as much happiness as mine has brought me! Thank you to Shopista as well for organizing the competition together with me!

One of you readers asked me about the quotes I've chosen for our living room photo collage wall that you can see in my blog post here. I thought I would present the ones we have on display right now, even though I ordered about 30 different photos in total, so we have quite a selection to choose from!

I also understood that you wanted a closer look on my necklace. So here's the stunning necklace of Finnish Titimadam! I have the goldfish, but there are tons of amazing necklaces at their web shop!

Here is today's story about Finnish Christmas:

Finnish Christmas Dinner
The Finnish Christmas dinner is eaten on the Christmas Eve, December 24th. Families and friends gather together to share the warm, festive atmosphere of the evening and enjoy a variety of traditional Christmas dishes. Yummy oven-baked ham, root vegetable casseroles, mixed beetroot salad, liver casserole and pâtés, meat aspics, gravlax or smoked salmon, fish roe and herring dishes form the basis of the traditional Finnish Christmas dinner. Salmon roe with sour cream and cut onion is my favorite!
Some say that the three most essential dishes on Finnish Christmas table are the oven-baked ham, rutabaga casserole and mixed beetroot salad. That is why without the taste of these traditional dishes, there would be something missing in Finnish Christmas celebration.
In addition to this basic Christmas dinner menu, each family has its own supplementary dishes according to their individual liking, traditions or diets. In my family we always have beef tongue, but I know it's not something very common in Helsinki.

I personally can't wait to get to our Christmas table! Time spent with one's family is priceless!

What kind of Christmas food do you have? What is your favorite Christmas time treat?

What's your opinion?

  1. What gorgeous pictures! I am jealous of snow - we haven't had any here yet! My favourite Christmas time treat are gingerbread cookies.
