My big sister's wedding

Helsinki, 4 degrees

You were born together, and together you shall be for evermore, but let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Finally the day has come when I have received the photos from my sister's special day. With her permission, I would like to transport you back to that day, the 2nd of February, through pictures. So click to read more, sit back and enjoy the photos!

The wedding took place at the Old File Factory (Vanha Viilatehdas in Finnish). You can see a picture of it from the outside in my earlier blog post here. So in this scenic and historical riverside location all the magic happened.

The Old File Factory is a renovated restaurant that serves as a modern 140-seat venue, proudly upholding the tradition of roadway inns dating as far as the Middle Ages. With the rumbling river at its side, it was a truly unique wedding setting. My sister, the wonderful creative person as she is, has designed the table decorations, menus and candy goodie boxes herself. We bridesmaids tried our best to help to realize her visions.

My sis' mother-in-law had created these stunning and fancy ice lanterns with romantic red roses! What a genius idea!

As the theatrical person that my sister is, she wanted the entrance of the wedding to resemble a dark place, so that the wedding guests would arrive in the dark and the move towards the light - the light being her of course in her stunning white wedding dress! So the wedding guests were welcomed by two guys in black copes and silver masks as there was dramatic music played.

When the actual wedding started, the same guys lead the wedding entourage. As I have mentioned in earlier blog posts like this one, my sister wanted us bridesmaids to wear floral headbands, which I though was a beautiful idea. My sister herself had an amazing braided hairdo with a white rose on the side. I decided to wear a lace dress to the wedding as I wanted to honor my sister. I knew she had a lace wedding dress and I wanted to share the theme even though my dress was far more self-contained since this was my sis' day as a princess.

The best part of the wedding was the genuine happiness of my sister. I could see in her eyes that she was bubbling with happiness and that brought joy to my heart. My sister wore a beautiful red cape for the photos that were taken outside directly after the wedding ceremony. I loved the Red Riding Hood feel of it.

My mother had chosen an elegant purple dress and jacket for the wedding. With the beautiful floral details, I thought we both looked like we represented my sis' family. My better half was so handsome!

During my speech to the wedding couple, I had asked a singer and guitar player to surprise the couple by arriving after the wedding ceremony out of the blue to perform two songs: Siskoni (Finnish for "My sister") - a tribute to my sister showcasing my deep and profond love for her and Säg det igen (Swedish for "Say it again") - a love song for the new bride and groom. The surprise was perfect and my sister loved the gesture.

We also had the chance to take some beautiful and fun photos of us bridesmaids with the bride - what great fun!

Wow - look at that stunning wedding cake! The raspberry filling was so good, and that's a lot said by someone who usually doesn't like cake at all! The wedding waltz was so romantic - one could really sense the love in the air!

Later followed sassy live music by the band, impressive fireworks and a superb fire show outside the venue.

In my opinion the wedding couldn't have been more beautiful. I'm so happy for my sister!

Here's still a detailed photo of my hairdo. The photo was taken at my hairdresser Kaipaamo. I must say it was perfect for the occasion!

  2. Tajuttoman upeita kuvia ! Kaunis juhlapaikka, ihana "perussuomalaisesta" poikkeava teema (kukkaseppeleet ja saattaja-pojat naamioissaan = WOW!) Suloinen pari! :) Kiitos kommentistasi muuten !

  3. I think I remember one wedding from my childhood but I was way too little to remember the details or actually anything specific at all.
I'm glad you made that post btw. it was so interesting to read and see all those beautiful photos full of cheerful emotions. I noticed the bridesmaids are all wearing different dresses and that's really cool in my opinion. this solution has more character as well and everyone can show their creativity.
    huge congrats to your sister!!

    1. Thank you Maiken! Yeah, all of us bridesmaids could show our own character this way :) Even though I preferred to have the same theme as my sister so she was in the spotlight that day.
