Tropical prints and patterns

Helsinki, 3 degrees

She imagined herself whirling breathlessly beneath the flashing lights of some impossibly chic Manhattan disco.  Suddenly, a hand touches her arm. She turns. ‘Pardon me,’ Mick Jagger says, 'I believe this next dance is mine.”

Since Easter, Helsinki has been buzzing with life. Thanks to the sun, terraces are now opened, living statues have returned to the streets and people are happy! So am I, and I was walking around the city center today with a smile upon my face. When smiling, one meets more smiles as well! From shop keepers, passerby, co-travellers on the tram, you name it! I had a succesful shopping spree today, and found some new ankle boots I had been looking for. My old and beloved pair had already become a disaster, but what can I say? A girl needs a reliable pair of shoes, and my ankle shoes have been just that. Something easy to pull on my feet, always elegant and suitable for every occasion. Let's hope this new pair turns out to be as reliable. I decided to hit the town in an outfit inspired by the tropical trend...

I can't think about a happier trend than the tropical one. Seeing these bold pattern, parrots, flowers and palm trees always rises my mood to the top! Let's add some music as well! Sit back, put on the video, and enjoy a Saturday in a tropical paradise!

For a while today on the Helsinkian streets, I had an about four-year-old girl walking behind me with her mother on the street. Guess what she said? "Look mom, look what a beautiful skirt the girl has in front of us!" "She must be going to a disco!" Haha! The mother replied her that one can wear a sequin skirt also otherwise, but it was a useless comment since according to the girl, I was definitely heading to a disco. What do you think, is a disco the only right place to go dressed like this?

Lately, I've been widely inspired by sequin skirts, and I'll write another blog post about them shortly. Meanwhile, here are the stunning new ankle boots I bought today at Din Sko!

I also remembered that I hadn't showed you my latest manicure with green glitter! What do you think? I might try a new color next week when I go to fix them again, what color would you suggest?

Has the tropical trend reached you yet? How would you like to wear it?

What's your opinion?

  1. Love the floral and tropical theme of your outfit and the inspirational photos!

  2. I guess I don't own many tropical pieces.. or at least I think so. but I did see a very summery parrot print dress while thrifting on Saturday. it was strapless though and I don't wear strapless pieces.
when it comes to sequin skirts then no, definitely not only a disco piece! I wore one with sneakers for example and it had nothing to do with discos, haha. the pattern of your blazer, btw, reminds me of my bikini from gina tricot. so super similar! I of course like the pattern ;)

  4. Copenhagen hasn't gotten tropical enough for me to bust out my floral prints just yet. I'm originally from Florida, so I think i may be biased. It's tropical year round over there.

    1. Haha, wearing floral - it's a state of mind, and it's not temperature related, that's something you'll learn living in the Nordic countries :D
