Home

Helsinki, 20 degrees

Home, the spot of earth supremely blest - a dearer, sweeter spot than all the rest.

In the recent past, I presented our balcony and after that some of you readers asked to see more photos of it, and our home in general, so here's a post dedicated to our home. You can see all my blog post about interior decor and interior design under the label interior here. As I've mentioned earlier, we moved to this apartment last October, so soon we're celebrating our first home anniversary! Still there's lots to do in our home, but at least we've come far during our first year. After all, a home is never complete. One can always change the outlook of one's home with small changes. In this blog post, I've used Chip it! to create fun color palette chip cards for each room presented. Enjoy!

Our apartment is 75m² big. One of its features that I fell instantly in love with, is the entrance with its stone floor. You can see that floor in my previous blog post here. On the left side of the entrance and the hall that follows, one find a niche that I've decorated with a white interior ladder that showcases my beloved red Minna Parikka shoes, a bowl for keys and coins, travel souvenirs and a photo of the home owners, me and my boyfriend that is. The interior ladder was bought from Ikea. I've also added a vintage white chest to the niche, and right now I'm storing my ballerina shoes in that chest.

Once one walks along the corridor from the entrance hall, one arrives in our living room. I've presented the photo wall that you see in the back in an earlier blog post that you'll find here if you've missed it. The shelves are also from Ikea and the bench is from Kodin1. The Helsinki board is made out of Vallila Interior's interior fabric named Helsinki. Our divan sofa is from Sotka, and our living room table is from Ikea. The industrial lamp is from Clas Ohlson. I've bought the carpet from a flea market. The pillow cases are second hand finds.

Beside our dining table, you'll find our modern version of a vitrine. The vitrine was a present. Don't mind the cords and wires, they are not supposed to be there (we're working on a solution for them right now). Any hints for hiding cords by the way? On top of the glass vitrine, we have silver candle holders from Ikea and Perfect Home. The books are presents and souvenirs.

Our black dining table is also from Ikea. I love the black dining table, since it's so easy to decorate and set for different occasions. The lamps on the window sill are from Ikea and Jotex. The photo frame is a second hand find. As you notice, we still don't have any curtains so I'll gladly receive hints about those as well.

Here's our living room from another angle. The floor lamp is from Ikea. As you can see, the color sceme for our living room is a classic:  black, white, grey and silver.

Our kitchen continues the light color scheme. We're still looking for a kitchen table for our white Ikea chairs. The cupboard is also from Ikea. The jars on top of it are flea market finds. I've used the cover of the book "the Geometry of Pasta" to create a cool detail for our kitchen wall.

Our bedroom has been presented from one angle in my earlier blog post here. In that blog post, I showcased the antlers above my dressing table and our baroque-style mirror. Now I wanted to show you the other side of the room, where one finds our bed, from Ikea, and the photo frame I've created. The color scheme of our bedroom is warmer than in the rest of the apartment: white, brown and gold.

When it comes to our balcony, here you finally see it in its full glory! Lanterns, candles, plants and striped and squared fabrics create a tranquil atmosphere. This is intentionally by far the greenest corner of our home - perfect place for reading and relaxing!

Have you ever thought about the color palettes of your home? How do you choose your interior colors?

What's your opinion?

    2. Many thanks to you for replying here and in my blog! Indeed, living in a rented house doesn't give that much freedom. I have shared an apartment in the past two years for university time, and the lack of freedom kind of inspired me even more to think about how my ideal house would look like. And, of course, reading interior blogposts and some occasional trips to Ikea help imagination as well, haha!

PS: I'm soon going to renew a bit my profile and to start a new blog when I'm having some spare time, that's the only reason I currently haven't followed you yet.

      Have a nice evening!

  7. I think I don't even have to mention how happy I was when I saw that post.. it was SO interesting to see the whole thing at once! that way I get the best picture of the overall look :) and I must say I also had my deja vu moments when I saw your living room because the dark table and chairs are so similar to ours. by the way, I think you should pick something rather dark when it comes to the kitchen curtains... black lace maybe if you find something like that? :) oh and when it comes to our house we both love colours so in addition to classic browns, blacks and whites we always need some colours like purple, red, orange, pink.. yeah, we just love our colours, hehe.

    1. I'm so happy to hear that Maiken :) I must remember to write more often interior related blog posts then. I have been thinking about some striped curtains for the living room, but lets see :) Yes, I do use colors for special occasions, I don't know if you remember my Easter post? You can find it here http://dragonflyelisabeth.blogspot.fi/2013/03/the-purest-and-most-thoughtful-minds.html. When the interior base colors are clean, it's easy to add some color to it.
