The infinite beauty of all things mild

Helsinki, 23 degrees

Source

There's always a bittersweet kind of thing, but I feel like everything had to work out the way it is. Everything that had to happen, happened.

I just spent two of the best weekends of the summer! As the summer days lead to their end, one can not help but reflect on what our expectations for the summer have been, and if this summer has met those expectations. I found this beautiful yet dreamy editorial named The infinite beauty of all things mild on Fashionising that I thought described the mood of my Monday and my current thoughts quite well. Have a look!

As Fashionising explains the editorial:
In life, the things that immediately strike you as beautiful are usually defined as either being complex, highly elaborate, able to drag you into a labyrinth of deep thoughts and equally profound emotions, or quite on the contrary surprisingly mild, delicate, hitting you with a punch of uncomplicated grace. Vivienne Moks dreamy photographs fall in the second category, resembling an early spring’s breath of fresh air.

Maybe my hit of nostalgia this Monday has to do with the fact that lots of people are already returning to work and when I hear people talk about it, I realize that I myself only have one week left of summer holidays. Maybe it's the fact that for me these photos remind me of my grandmother's house, I can't really explain why. Maybe it's the chandelier, vintage furniture, lace curtains or the garden.

My grandmother's house is a place where I spent many parts of my childhood. It is a contradictory place for many reasons though. I won't go into details, but let me say that nowadays it stands empty as my grandmother isn't able to live alone anymore but lives in a nursing home. For me that symbolizes one out of many conflicts we encounter in this life. Our memories bring us joy, while they bring out feelings of bittersweet yearning for things of the past.

Isn't that exactly what we feel as summer leads to its end?

Don't get me wrong, I've had a wonderful summer and I do look very much forward to this fall, with all the new and exciting things it will bring with it - among others new opportunities, work trips and school. This reflection post is needed merely to crystallize what joys this summer has brought and to be grateful for them.

Do you feel you have had time to experience everything you wanted this summer?

I am very jealous that you have only 23 degrees, I am dying of the head of 36 degrees, it's so horrible :D

    1. I'm happy that you liked the post :) Today we have 26 degrees, which is quite enough for me. There's always a breeze in Helsinki since it's a harbor city, that is one of the features I love about my city.

  5. no, unfortunately I can't say so.. life has been quite difficult through the whole year and I've had plenty of stressful experiences. I really hope everything will work out just fine and soon there will come times when I can just enjoy and don't have to worry about everything. but hey, I really enjoyed the editorial and it actually gave me an idea to change some of the curtains at my house :)
