Helsinki City Sightseeing: Tracks are green

Helsinki, 10 degrees

The traveler is active; he goes strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience.

During the weekend I sadly came down with the flu while being at school, so my days have been filled with homemade and natural cold and flu remedies. Garlic, ginger, lemon, honey - these have been some of my best friends for a while now and like always - on true friends one can truly count on! These buddies get me through even the worst of colds. I also wanted to share with you some photos from a new city sightseeing tour in Helsinki that I had the chance to try out the other day.

As I mentioned above, I recently got the chance to test Happy Tours Helsinki’s new city sightseeing tour called Tracks are Green that focuses on both historical and future sights of the city. The well-known districts of the tour were among others the Tori Quarters, Eira, Hietalahti and Kamppi, but the tour also took us to some other interesting districts like Pasila and Baana.

Kuten mainitsin, kävin hiljattain testaamassa Happy Tours Helsingin uutta kaupunkikierrosta nimeltään Tracks are Green, joka keskittyy historiallisen keskustan, Eiran, Hietalahden ja Kampin lisäksi myös tulevaisuuden kaupunginosiin kuten Pasilaan ja Baanaan.

The tour can be considered sustainable as it uses the city’s public transport services like tram, underground and train tracks for moving around.

These photos were taken by the tour guide. You can read more about my experiences on my work blog here, where you'll also find more picture that I've taken. Later this week I'm joining in on the same company's Helsinki Halloween Horror Walk, can't wait!

Last but definitely not least, I wanted to tell you that I last week cleaned my closet and prepared two huge Ikea bags full of clothes, and took them to a local second hand store called Frida Marina. So shop until you drop, you have two weeks time!

I was so thrilled when I saw yesterday that the second hand shop had assembled an outfit and put a photo of it on Facebook - the outfit included my dress and bag, yey! It's always such a rush to see how others matches your clothes with accessories! I think this outfit is beautifully put together, don't you think?!

Do you ever try city sightseeing tours in your own city? What kind of tours do you like? Do you organize your closet in fall? What are the pieces you're still missing?

Käytkö koskaan kaupunkikierroksilla omassa kaupungissasi? Millaisista kaupunkikierroksista tykkäät kun itse matkustelet? Järjesteletkö uudestaan vaatekaappisi syksyn tullen?

What's your opinion?

  1. my city doesn't have much to see.

  2. Tuollainen kaupunkikierros kuulostaisi mahtavalta, varsinkin kun olen hiljattain vasta muuttanut tänne pk-seudulle :) Pikaista paranemista!

  4. I liked the outfit as well, nice colors and amazing shoes :) I love shoes! It's so nice that you had this tour, and even more that it is sustainable! I hope you are better now, guess what, I caught 6 colds in 1 year, so I know how you felt and I really hope it's gone by now! Beautiful tour pictures! Sorry that I was out of the blogosphere for some a while, now I'm fully back! denisesplanet com

  5. looks like an extra awesome thrift store! I think I'm seeing a pair of Miu Miu heels there and this pair looks just perfect. I wish we had similar thrift stores here in my hometown. I mean thrift stores that would sell your stuff. and yes, I'm in the middle of cleaning my wardrobe and closet. I have been there for a long time actually, haha. I'm also going through all my clothes and accessories to create a wardrobe that is smaller than my current one. right now I have too many pieces I don't use.
when it comes to sightseeing in my hometown then oh no, we don't have such tours here because the town is really tiny (around 5000 people) and we don't have much to see here. that's the truth :P
by the way, I hope you're feeling better, Elisabeth!
