Light decor elements: lanterns, light letters and string lights

Helsinki, 10 degrees

Source

There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of even one small candle.

As the days have become shorter (we have about 10 hours of daylight right now) here in Helsinki I've started to focus on my favorite autumnal hobby - decorating our home. Lately I've been inspired by three light decor elements: lanterns, light letters and strings of lights. Autumn for me is all about creating the right atmosphere at home and cosying up with candles and blankets.

Kun päivät lyhenevät näin syksyn aikana, olen taas alkanut miettiä syksyistä suosikkiharrastustani - kodimme sisustamista. Viime aikoina minua on viehättänyt erityisesti kolme valaistukseen liittyvää sisustuselementtiä: lyhdyt, valo- ja sisustuskirjaimet ja pallovalosarjat. Minulle syksy tarkoittaakin oikean tunnelman luomista; kääräistä viltti hartioille ja nauttia kynttilävalosta ja levollisesta valaistuksesta kotona.

One of the interior design shops that have inspired me the most right now, has been Kodin1 with its new interior design catalogue for this fall. The spreads named "Decorate with lights" and "Create ambiance with lanterns" made the biggest impressions on me. As many of you readers know, I've bought some lanterns before but the ones I have are not enough! You can see the ones I already have in earlier blog post like here and here. Basically right now we have three lanterns: one house lantern, one hanging one and one big one that stands on our balcony floor.

Right now I'm looking for something maritime like this lantern. That would go so well with the maritime theme we're striving for in our study room. A couple of white romantic and oriental lanterns would be great as well.

Light letters are a new love of mine. It would be wonderful to have one on the shelves we have in our living room. If you missed the photo frame we have in the living room, you can see it here. The strings of lights could be a nice final touch to our balcony or then our living room if they would be for instance in a vase.

  5. I really enjoyed that post! but actually we haven't decorated our house with lights during fall time.. or okay, of course we burn candles now and then. but other lights come with Christmas time, that's like a tradition :) by the way, today I ordered a book about bedrooms and we have a small wish to do domething with our own. floor, ceiling, walls.. everything will change. I hope this book will include some nice inspiration :) oh and thank you for your comment! I'm already curious about your recent purchases!
