Hietaranta Beach & stripes

Helsinki, 5 degrees

I am longing to be with you, and by the sea, where we can talk together freely and build our castles in the air.

Many people get surprised when I tell them that we have a massive beach in downtown Helsinki. The most common comment I get is "shouldn't there be polar bears running around there since you're so far north - how can you have a beach?". Believe it or not, we don't have polar bears, I've only seen some in Helsinki as my friend put it beautifully in her blog, on top of a particular building, have a look here you'll know what I mean! And yes, we do have many beaches, and this weekend I visited one which is very close to my heart. As I lived in the Töölö district of Helsinki for several years, I used to visit the Hietaranta beach very often. In summertime for sunbathing, but also during the other seasons for picnics and walks. I grew up by the sea, and the sea always gives me a calm sensation. My soul is at ease next to the sea, you might say. I guess I've inherited this love for the sea from my parents, as they even actually went on their honeymoon on a sailing boat so they could be next to the sea.

Lately I've been widely inspired by striped dresses so when my boyfriend told me that he was free to come for a drive and to take some photos, I immediately knew what dress I wanted to show you today. My love affair with stripes has lasted already many years, you can read about it for instance in earlier blog posts here and here. This time I wanted to combine my new striped dress with my leather jacket for the season. I can't wait to get rid of my tights since I hate socks and tights more than anything! I was really happy when I found a pair of floral sunnies when I was shopping with one of my friends. I think they're very feminine and romantic! I was even lucky enough to get my boyfriend to join me in one of the photos, yey! The sun does miracles!

What are your favorite places in your home town? How do you feel about stripes?

Onko teillä suosikkipaikkaa kotikaupungissanne? Mitä mieltä olette itse raidallisista vaatteista?

What's your opinion?
