New Year's Eve in 20s style

Helsinki, 0 degrees

And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been, full of work that has never been done, full of tasks, claims, and demands; and let us see that we learn to take it without letting fall too much of what it has to bestow upon those who demand of it necessary, serious, and great things.

This New Year's Eve I took a culinary trip to Czarist time when me and my boy headed to the local Russian restaurant Saslik. It has delighted Helsinki already for over 40 years and there is a reason for it - the food and milieu are excellent! We enjoyed a three-course-dinner with Zakuska appetizers, Ivan's Sword and Baked Alaska as some of you already saw on Instagram! You can also see my new year amulet there, what do you think it looks like? I felt like dressing in a 20s style sequin dress, maybe because the restaurant made me feel like I was reliving that period of time. I tried, what I think is one of the most difficult hairdos there is, the 20s hairdo! And I fell in love with it, I can't wait to try it again for a special occasion. I celebrated the turn of the year on the rooftop of our apartment building with my boy, watching the stunning fireworks above Helsinki!

How did you ring in the New Year? How do you feel about sequin dresses? Are they merely something for the New Year celebrations or do you wear them year-round?

Miten vietit uudenvuoden?

What's your opinion?

  1. That sounds like such a fun way to spend your New Years Eve! I am so glad that you did something special. What you wore is absolutely gorgeous by the way. Perfectly 20s and so so chic.

  2. I don't even own a sequin dress :P but I do have a sequin skirt and I've worn it at random times, not at parties or such. your golden dress is really pretty by the way, and the shoes too. such a glamorous look for New Year's. I wore a metallic top and metallic pants but unfortunately have no photos. we celebrated New Year's with my parents at their place and even did some lead-pouring.

    Maiken,
