Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.
My birthday month of March had a great icing on the cake as I visited Amsterdam because of the second Social Media Tourism Symposium #SoMeT15EU - the best annual event covering social media and tourism if you ask me! 22 European and American destinations during two days – that is what #SoMeT15EU is all about! SoMeT is a unique conference created for destination marketing professionals by destination marketing professionals themselves. According to me, SoMeT is the only conference with a focus on the changes, challenges and successes that destination marketers must manage. It was my first time in Amsterdam so it was very exciting!
Ensikertalaisena Amsterdamissa olin matkasta hyvin innostunut!
This is the first blog post out of four about my visit to Amsterdam. In this blog post, I want to introduce the some of the sights I saw during my stay in the city: Noorderlicht Café, North docks, Amsterdam canal cruising and Rijksmuseum with the IAMsterdam sign. Amsterdam is clearly connected with water. Its 165 canals define the city's landscape and in 2010, Amsterdam's canal ring was recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site! My hotel Hotel Lloyd Amsterdam & Cultural Embassy was located in the district Zeeburg, close by to the Central Railway Station (two tram stops with tram 26). Amsterdam has a really visitor-friendly tram system, so this tram-loving girl felt right at home. The location by the water and easy public transportation system made me a true fan of the city! It had a lot in common with another Nordic city that I love, Copenhagen that is. Both cities love to bike around the city, and I must say that Amsterdam was built for bicycle lovers as the city was filled with bicycle lanes. Despite the humid weather, I enjoyed the city and its stunning architecture a lot!
It's a great city, no doubt and your pictures are amazing! So nice that you went there and I am so looking forward to reading the other 3 posts! I love Amsterdam! It's really a great city - cool, relaxed and beautiful!
