Vallisaari Island

Helsinki, 16 degrees

The larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder.

Some time ago I had the unique chance to visit Vallisaari Island with my colleagues. It's one of the 300 islands in front of Helsinki. Vallisaari Island has previously been a military island, since the 19th century, and closed to the public but this year it's possible to visit it during guided tours and next year it will open for good - to the public! You can find its Facebook page here and read more about the island here.

Vallisaari Island has many fortresses and hills. Some of them definitely look like the Lord of the Rings' Hobbit holes! Lovely! The nature of the island is quite wild and untouched, which makes it truly special. I had never seen Helsinki from this point of view before so I was very excited to be on the island! I also found a fun video about the island that I wanted to share with you! I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful island!

Vallisaaren keskellä on merkittävä linnoitus, Aleksanterin patteri, jossa käytiin! Löysin hauskan videon saaresta, jonka halusin jakaa blogissa. Suosittelen saaressa käymistä!

Do you enjoy island hopping? Have you seen fortresses like this before?

Kuinka moneen helsinkiläiseen saareen olet jo ehtinyt tutustua?

What's your opinion?

  1. I loved the island, what I saw, and it really looks like Lord of the Rings landscape! I can imagine how amazing it is there! And I would love visiting it!
