Top 5 Nordic food trends for spring 2017

Helsinki, 0 degrees

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.

I recently picked up the free quarterly food magazine K-Ruoka from our local supermarket as I was searching for current & seasonal recipes. This, because in my mind the right kind of food + exercise (in my case baby strolls & baby dancing classes) are vital for my personal wellness. In addition to having great recipes, the magazine's article on current food trends caught my eye. I thought I would share them with you in this blog post.

Hiljattain nappasin ruokakaupasta mukaani K-Ruoka -lehden koska kaipasin uusia & ajankohtaisia sesonkireseptejä.

Raw porridge - Raakapuuro

According to the magazine, there's nothing faster or healthier than raw porridges, so no wonder that we Finns are at the moment mad about them! You might remember my earlier blog post about the best raw porridge you can find in Helsinki.

Lehden mukaan tuorepuuro on arkiaamujen nopea & terveellinen pelastaja. Itsekin pidän kovasti raakapuurojen raikkaasta mausta! Muistat ehkä aikaisemman blogikirjoitukseni Helsingin parhaasta tuorepuurosta.

Coconut syrup - Kookossiirappi

This spring's sweet thing is coconut syrup. It can replace sugar in many recipes, and it's ideal on top of your morning porridge!

Tämän kevään makea juttu on kookossiirappi. Se voi korvata sokerin monissa resepteissä, ja sillä voi kivasti makeuttaa aamupuuroa. Pakko kokeilla!

Seaweed - Levät

Japanese influences are huge at the moment! Furikake & nori strips are now spread on foods (e.g. as soup and/or salad toppings). Smoothie bowls on the other hand are finished with spirulina.

Japanilaiset vaikutteet jatkuvat! Furikake -maustetta & nori -suikaleita ripotellaan nyt ruokien päälle (mm. salaattien & keittojen päälle). Spriulinalla viimeistellään sen sijaan smoothie bowleja. Olen muutenkin japanilaisen keittiön ystävä, joten tulen varmasti näitä maistelemaan.

Popcorn

Popcorn are everywhere! They come with different toppings, but can also be found mixed with granola and/or muesli. Instead of croutons, you can also try them on top of your soup! I've even heard of popcorn pizza! My personal favorite combination right now is popcorn & chocolate: for instance Swedish Cloetta's Tupla Roasted Corn and Finnish Fazer's Salty Popcorn.

Popcornit löytyvät kaikkialta! Maustettuihin popcorneihin törmää usein, ja olen jopa nähnyt niitä myslin seassa. Leipäkuutoiden sijaan, niin popcorneja voi laittaa keiton päälle! Olen jopa kuullut huhuja popcorn -pizzasta! Omat makuyhdistelmäsuosikkini on suklaa-popcorn: esimerkiksi nykyään ruotsalaisen Cloettan alla oleva Tuplan popcorn -uutuus ja Fazerin Salty Popcorn.

Souping

Forget juicing - now everyone's talking about souping! Almost anything can be turned into a delicious soup, but currently vegetable soups are the most popular. Hot smoothies are also in!

Have you heard of any of these food trends? Have they affected you in any way?

Oletko törmännyt jo näihin ruokatrendeihin? Vaikuttavatko ruokatrendit sinun syömiseen?

What's your opinion?

  1. Oooh, I looove popcorn and I love soups - and juices too, so these two suggestions are great for me - in winter, for sure, and I also like soups even in the summer! Hope you have a very nice weekend!
