Rhododendron Park in Helsinki

Helsinki, 16 degrees

The glittering leaves of the rhododendrons balance and vibrate in the cool air; while in the sky above them white clouds chase each other. Like scampering rabbits, flashes of sunlight sweep the lawn;they fling in passing - patterns of shadow, golden and green.

Today, on the longest day of the year (the day with the most daylight = a stunning amount of 18h, 56min), I thought I would share one of my favorite spots in Helsinki on the blog. I actually like this place so much that during the past two weeks, I've visited this place twice with my toddler girl. Yes, you read correctly. From now on, I'm the mother of a toddler girl as she turned one last Saturday. But I'll fill you in on that in another upcoming blog post, I promise.

Vuoden pisimpinä päivänä, eli tänään, ajattelin, että olisi hauskaa kertoa yhdestä suosikkipaikastani Helsingissä. Viimeisten kahden viikkojen aikana olen käynyt kyseisessä paikassa peräti kaksi kertaa - niin paljon pidän siitä! Mukanani on ollut juuri vuoden täyttänyt tyttäreni. Lupaan kertoa hänen syntymäpäivästään enemmän tulevassa blogikirjoituksessa.

Back to theme of this blog post. The Rhododendron Park in Helsinki is located in the district of Haaga and it's one of a kind! The park serves as both a public park and a university research garden – a unique solution in the world! The park has two parts: the evergreen rhododendrons grow in the southern section, while the seasonal park azaleas grow on the other side of the power lines in the northern section. I love how the pine trees create a canopy for the flowering plants.

Puisto on kaksiosainen. Eteläosassa kasvavat ikivihreät alppiruusut. Lehtensä pudottavat puistoatsaleat on istutettu alueen pohjoispäähän, voimalinjan toiselle puolen. Mielestäni männyt luovat upean katon pensaiden kukkaloistolle.

The Rhodendron Park is the only park in Helsinki that has special accessible viewing platforms for admiring the breathtaking flowers. All the signs in the park are now in Finnish, Swedish and English. The peak blooming season for both the rhododendrons and the azaleas is early June, this year, though, it's this week! So hurry up to enjoy this floral splendor!

Näin jo korkeiksi kasvaneiden pensaiden huikea kukkaloisto avautuu koko komeudessaan. Alueella kulkee myös pitkospuita. Alppiruusujen ja atsaleoiden kukinta on yleensä parhaimmillaan kesäkuun alkupuolella, mutta tänä vuonna juuri tällä viikolla! Eli kiirehdi ihastelemaan tätä kukkaloistoa!

Isn't this place just dreamy? What are your favorite kinds of flowers?

Eikö paikka olekin unenomainen? Mistä kukista sinä pidät eniten?

What's your opinion?
