The name Easter comes from a German pagan goddess... I imagine Easter celebrations aren't that pagan in origin in perhaps Eastern Europe, but the English-speaking world's version was heavily influenced by the Germanic version. After all we call it Easter instead of Pasch. <br /><br />I can't blame Christians for stealing/keeping the traditions of old. Non-religious people like me still like the traditions of a "Christian" holiday the same way a secular Jew celebrate Jewish holidays. <br /><br />Our 21st century versions of Easter and Christmas is like a can of green paint. Part of it used to be blue (pagan) and the other yellow (Christian) but it's been mixed for so long that we can no longer separate it even if we wanted to. <br /><br /><br />I don't believe I've ever heard of the Easter witch though.
