Tauko 2/2: 5 reasons why the Silmu dress is this fall's best dress

Helsinki, 19 degrees

Love yourself, even a little bit each day, and your life will bloom into infinite joy.

Commercial collaboration: TAUKO / Kaupallinen yhteistyö: TAUKO

To continue my previous blog post, in this post I wanted to showcase the dress I chose from the TAUKO x Neulomo collection - the stunning bluish-grey Silmu dress! I took this beauty out on one of our daily strolls with my baby girl. I decided to show off the dress in a nearby tunnel known for its cool street art named Queer Helsinki. It's made by local public city space artist Viva Granlund. I think this place is truly unique in Helsinki, just like the dress! In my opinion, this dress is the best one in my closet this fall. It's the only dress in addition to my wardrobe this season! Why? Here are my five personal reasons presented.

Jatkaakseni edellistä blogikirjoitustani, ajattelin tänään esitellä mekon, jonka valitsin TAUKO x Neulomo -mallistosta - upean siniharmaan Silmu -mekon! Vein uutukaisen vauvalenkille mukaan. Valitsin kuvauspaikaksi läheisen alikulkutunnelin, joka tunnetaan vaikuttavasta katutaideteoksestaan nimeltään Queer Helsinki. Sen on tehnyt kuvataiteilija Viva Granlund. Mielestäni tämä paikka Helsingissä on ainutlaatuinen, kuten mekkokin! Mielestäni kyseessä on nimittäin syksyn paras mekko, ja ainoa vaatekaapin täydennys mekkomuodossa, jonka jokainen tarvitsee! Miksi? Tässä viisi syytä.

Japanese kimonos meet spring / Japanilaiskimono kohtaa kevään

The Silmu (direct translation from Finnish: flower/plant bud) dress has got its inspiration from the Japanese traditional garments, kimonos that are, and that explains why it's so super comfortable and yet very chic! In Japan, kimonos might always be used in important festivals or formal moments, as it is the representative of polite and considered formal clothing, but lately, the kimono trend has turned kimonos into casualwear. According to Harper's Bazaar, "there's an inherent glamour to the kimono—a garment with a beautiful Japanese history— and it fits perfectly into the au courant style equation that is leveraging volume, drama and sweeping lengths." Many actually call kimonos already an essential piece of clothing, a uniform and/or cornerstone, that should be found in every girl's closet. The name Silmu comes from the fact that early spring was on its way when the design was brought to life in Helsinki. According to TAUKO's designers, Kaisa Rissanen & Mila Moisio, the amazingly bright sunlight made all contrasting shapes visible during that period. I think that goes well also for late summer / early autumn - the season we find ourselves in at the moment.

Silmu -mekko on saanut inspiraationsa perinteisestä japanilaisesta kaapumaisesta vaatteesta, eli kimonosta.

Recycled TAUKO x Neulomo collection / TAUKO x Neulomo -kierrätysmallisto

The Silmu dress belongs to the TAUKO x Neulomo collection, which is designed in Helsinki, and recycled and crafted in the city of Nokia in Finland. According to TAUKO, the TAUKO x Neulomo collection is inspired by Helsinki: Helsinki's coastlines, early spring vegetation, Finnish salty licorice, and architecture. The TAUKO x Neulomo collection is inspired by the everyday life around us. Working together with Nokia's Knitting Factory, Nokian Neulomo, and its team to finding ways to support domestic textile industry, TAUKO has designed a luxurious mini collection from recycled high quality yarns and knits.

According to me, the Silmu dress' best feature is its loose top. The dress flows beautifully, and is made out of a soft knit that actually feels like your second skin! The cut sits perfectly on the hips that also have useful pockets. The dress is produced following TAUKO's ideals of high quality ethical and ecological production. The Finnish design concept values the standards of sustainable fashion and keep the whole production chain transparent.

Boho chic look / Tyylikäs boho -tyylinen ilme

As we're experiencing some of the last sunny late summer days right now, I wore it with white platform sandals. Later on, in fall, I intend to wear the dress with pants, tights, and blouses for a boho-chic look. Thanks to its kimonolike appearance, it makes your figure skinnier (thanks to the waist-enhancing feature). This dress makes any outfit easily sophisticated!

Nordic Designers' Pop Up Shop

I, myself, discovered TAUKO in May through a Finnish fashion event called Nordic Designers' Pop Up Shop. On September 2-29, the sequel of this pop-up event is on at the biggest shopping center in the Nordic countries - Itis that is, in Eastern Helsinki. In total, 23 Finnish brands will appear at the event, so if you are looking for autumn fashion - this is the place to be! You can see a complete list of the participating companies in the last photo of this blog post. Naturally, TAUKO will also participate in this event, so why not go and see, and possibly pick up your own Silmu dress from the pop-up event?

Itse löysin TAUKOn toukokuussa Helsingin keskustassa järjestetyssä Nordic Designers' Pop Up Shop -tapahtumasta.

I now totally want to see (and photograph!) that graffiti when I'm in Helsinki again. that shade of blue looks lovely with blonde hair and white shoes by the way. it's a wonderful look! oh, what's important when it comes to a dress? I think a dress has to be comfortable, beautiful and you have to feel good in it :)
