The best art exhibition in Helsinki this spring: Three Rooms

Helsinki, 11 degrees

I did not bring any artworks to Kunsthalle, instead I made Kunsthalle into a piece of art.

I'm a huge fan of emotion-avoking art. My favorite kind of art exhibitions are those that make you stop, think, and feel. Encouraged by some of my good friends, I've bought a Museum Card that allows me to visit over 240 museums within a year! I therefore strive to visit museums as much as possible with my baby girl as I don't believe there exists such a thing as "a too young age to appreciate art". I believe art can be experienced & enjoyed at any age. Last week I experienced an excellent exhibition (Anu Pentik: Three Rooms at Helsinki Kunsthalle), and since it's only on until May 14, I highly recommend it to everyone in town! Hurry up! But don't worry, Kunsthalle is always wort a visit - it's definitely one of the most beautiful exhibition halls in Helsinki!

The exhibition at Helsinki Kunsthalle by Anu Pentik named Three Rooms showcases the beauty of Nordic nature in the form of ceramics installations. The exhibition consists out of three distinct spaces: Colorful paradise, Rocky earth and High heaven.

Taidehallin tämänhetkinen näyttely kertoo pohjoisen luonnon karusta kauneudesta valtavien keramiikkainstallaatioiden kautta. Näyttely koostuu nimensä mukaisesti kolmesta tilasta: Korkeasta taivasta, Kivisestä maasta ja Värikkäästä paratiisista.

Before I had visited the exhibition, I had seen stunning photos of its ceramic flowers that could be found in the space called Colorful paradise. However, from the photos, I had no idea what kind of emotion it would evoke to walk among the fascinating flowers. I can only explain the sensation by saying that there was something in these tall ceramic flowers (I would estimate that they were about 100cm tall) that made me return to the space they were in many times. It was almost like they were a combination of eye-candy and something highly captivating. I just couldn't get enough of them. There must have been about 100 flowers in the space and every flower was different - unique. For a flower-lover like me this was something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Rocky earth allured me in a different way. In my mind, the huddle of rocks looked like something you would see on the seafront, or next to a rapid. I found it interesting since there wasn't any water in the space, so it was clearly a product of my imagination. The stones were beautifully colored, just as they are found in nature. I said to my sister, who I visited the exhibition with, that I could also see the stones as a nice necklace. They looked so soft that I could picture how it would feel to touch them. I think the best kind of rocks are those that can comfort us. As a child & young girl, I used to collect rocks from my travels because they soothed me. I loved the text on one of the walls: "Rocks represent a perfection of form and color for me. They are messages from past generations."

Kivinen maa kiinnosti minua eri tavalla.

The last space was literally heavenly. It consisted out of a breathtaking ceramic cloud - I've never seen anything like it before! The cloud had a gatelike form, so one could stand underneath it and be surrounded by it on two sides. My sister took some photos of me & my baby girl there, and those photos are definitely some of my all-time favorites - I think I'll make a canvas print out of one and put it on the wall in our home! The space also had some delicate angel wings on the walls. Again, I loved the text on one of the walls: "Heaven is here today."

Ihastuin taas seinällä olevaan tekstiin: "Taivas on täällä tänään".

I think the art exhibition evokes different feelings in different people. For me, the whole exhibition reminded me of my parents: my mother who loved flowers. My father who loved rocks. Both of them in heaven. Many times I noticed that I was almost crying in Kunsthalle as the ceramic art evoked such strong feelings in me.

Mielestäni tämä taide näyttely herättää erilaisia tunteita eri ihmisissä. Minulle koko näyttely muistutti minua vanhemmistani: äidistäni, joka rakasti kukkia. Isästäni, joka rakasti kiviä. Molemmat taivaassa. Huomasin monta kertaa, että herkistyin Taidehallin näyttelyn aikana koska keraaminen taide herätti niin voimakkaita tunteita minussa.
