Building the perfect Nordic toddler play kitchen: Cutting Fruit Chef Set

Helsinki, 6 degrees

Cooking is love made visible.

Commercial collaboration: Tingeling / Kaupallinen yhteistyö: Tingeling

For some time now, my toddler girl has been increasingly interested in role-play, play food & cooking. We decided around Christmas that we thought it was too early to introduce her own kitchen nook, but since Christmas, we have been gathering pieces for a nook that might be introduced when she has her second birthday. So for about two months now, she has had a picnic basket with kitchen goodies. When we have chosen the pieces that go into her basket, we have tried to emphasize wooden & fabric items - but of course it's impossible not to have any plastic pieces. However, we have given thought to the fact that they're a minority in the basket.

I was thrilled when I heard that local toy shop Tingeling wanted to collaborate on the blog with me, and introduce my girl to new items ideal for a toddler play kitchen! This is the second blog post about our collaboration, read the first one here. Tingeling is located in the heart of Helsinki, and it truly showcases the beauty of toy shops - the service there is impeccable! The charming owner Kristina Lönnberg can tell you a story behind each product and there is a reason why she, having a kindergarten teacher & Bachelor of Pedagogy background I might add has chosen the product for her magical toy shop. Toy shops like this are not that common anymore, and they really need support in the competitive toy industry so I recommend that you pop in and experience a genuinely lovable toy shop! The set mentioned in this post is available at Tingeling.

Allaoleva setti on saatavilla Tingelingistä.

Cutting Fruit Chef Set - from British Bigjigs Toys / puuhedelmäsetti brittiläiseltä Bigjigs Toysilta

This selection of brightly colored wooden play food (melon, apple, pear, mandarin) can be sliced up carefully and accurately with the aid of a wooden knife. My girl loves to try to open the fruits with her hands as well, and she likes to give them to adults - one slice at a time. A great way to learn about kitchen safety. The set includes an apron to show how adults protect clothes in the kitchen.

Essu suojaa vaatteita keittiössä, sekin on setin hyvä oppi.

What are your favorite play kitchen items? Why? What makes in your opinion the perfect play kitchen?

Mikä ovat sinun suosikkisi leikkikeittiössä? Miksi? Mitkä yksityiskohdat ja erityispiirteet tekevät leikkikeittiöstä täydellisen?

What's your opinion?

  1. I never had a play kitchen, I grew up with only brothers. Kitchen play is sort of considered a "girly" thing so I guess that's why never had one

    1. Haha, I guess times have changed - nowadays the best chefs in the world are men! In Finland, at least, kitchen play is also common among boys :)
