Glitter

Helsinki, -6 degrees

Some girls are just born with glitter in their veins.

This weekend has been all about finding closure since I visited my father's apartment for the last time. Me and my sister have now cleared the apartment and brought home the items we want to keep. Closure means finality - a letting go of what once was. Finding closure implies a complete acceptance of what has happened and an honoring of the transition away from what is finished to something new. In other words, closure describes the ability to go beyond imposed limitations in order to find different possibilities. I found a great online article on closure, so if you're interested, please have a look here. Now that I feel that I'm starting to find closure, I have noticed that I get excited about things again. This weekend I've been widely inspired by Chanel's glittery beauty look.

I loved the tutorial I found on Fashionising on Chanel's glitter-dusted eye look:

You might not wear it every day, but just imagine the feeling of whimsical glamour and pure magic that you'd get from dusting your eyes in bold metallic glitter and pulling on your best pair of boots. Night out, concert, music festival, party... Some occasions just call for something extra. Chanel might have found it.

Here's how to create this look in five steps:

1) Prep the face by applying a moisturiser and primer. This will help keep the skin soft and fresh and will help your makeup last longer.
2) Apply some foundation for a natural and even skin tone, adding concealer under the eyes and wherever else necessary.
3) Apply a cream blush to the cheeks for a soft, feminine look.
4) For the eyes: the focus here is obviously on the sparkling metallic glitter that clusters across the top lid and lashes. First, dot the glitter pieces along the top lash line – using a cotton-tip to align them in place as you see fit – and then to complete the Chanel look add some pieces to the ends of the lashes.
5) Rather than over-doing the glitter by also putting it on the bottom, leave it and create a more dramatic look by only putting the strass on the eyelid.

I found that Make Up Store offers similar kinds of strass stones that can be applied all over the face and body to add some glam to your appearance. The stones can easily be attached with adhesive. I think they are very reasonable priced so I'm sure to get these for the next big party coming up! What do you think about this look - too bold?

But right now I need to find a suitable dress for going to the national ballet next week! I got some ballet tickets for my birthday from my boyfriend, and I need your advice on what to wear!?

  3. I think you should wear something light for the ballet. white or pastels.. at least that's how I picture it for that occasion. oh and I like the new header. it's fresh and cute and you have kept the dragonfly!
now, when it comes to that glitter make-up I have to admit I don't like it very much. it's just not my cup of tea.. I even don't like it on those models. but hey, I don't have to wear it and others of course can as much as they want to :)

    1. Thank you for your hint Maiken! I ended up wearing a pink dress to the ballet.
Thank you for your kind feedback about my header! I will always keep the dragonfly since it's my power "animal"! That's why I even have it tattooed on me!

  4. Oh, I´m sorry for you loss. Grief takes it´s time and it´s really positive that you can move on from this stage to look into the future. :)It might take a time and it´s important to take this time. :)

Funny, when I saw the glitter eyes I right away thought about music festivals in summer. It seems you had similar thoughts!
